The type of benefits I expect to gain from Critical thinking skills would be to view the world around me a little bit differently and ask more questions as to why, where, and what. For all of our lives we are just told that how we should live what recourses to use and what our beliefs are. In my readings I learned about the role that culture plays in creating understanding. I realized how big of a role our culture or our society and cultural upbringing rules the bases of our thoughts and our beliefs as to what we understand our lives should be like or what we should wear or even eat. I am sure we would feel an impact from the awareness of a multicultural democratic that would play in our society. Even in our country, we believe we are the land of the free as well as one of the most diverse countries, however even with that we still are shocked when we see someone walk by wearing a saree or a salwar kameez, or if we see someone praying to a different higher being or God than we do. The impact can be a good thing for our own creation learning stories and understanding, so we can all understand one another no matter where we are from, what we believe in or what we wear.
Diversity in my opinion is a great thing, but because of some peoples prejudices it can be dangerous as well….Would we have diversity if we didn’t have government or Gods? Who knows…..Diversity brings knowledge and understanding of different cultures, whether it is history, or art or science or just a different type of logic. Diversity and religious beliefs in my opinion cannot at this time go hand in hand, Religion is what separates so many cultures, even in Utah religion separates many people, but it also brings many cultures here to spread their religion around the world as well. History has been so structured on religion, whether it was fought out in battle, it’s told people how to live and gave them morals, even to this day our religions tell us what to eat. Without religion I’m not sure how our society would be today. I believe religion is very important in my household as well. I think we are definitely seeing a world of more diversity. The fact that there are more inter racial relationships are joining families and traditions and beliefs as well as many other things. There was a time when marrying outside of your race, religion, etc. was forbidden, and this is not so much the case in our generation. Unfortunately people are always going to label other people who look or speak different, it wasn’t part of our cultural upbringing and we don’t understand it.
